Recently, Basak from Thailand revealed in a media interview that the Thai government has strengthened measures to cut off several problematic internet connections in border areas and will continue to conduct inspections over the next three months to effectively combat telecommunications fraud.
These measures include investigating and cutting off problematic network lines, limiting network signal coverage, and ensuring that network services are only available to users within Thailand.
Basak also mentioned that the Thai authorities have noticed that scam gangs might turn to using low-orbit satellite network services like "Starlink" to evade regulation. Thailand is currently seeking cooperation with neighboring countries to block this potential loophole. He disclosed that "Starlink" devices have not yet been legally permitted in Thailand, but Thai police have seized more than 200 smuggled "Starlink" devices.
Furthermore, since February 5th, the Thai government has cut off five power supply points along the Thailand-Myanmar border to curb cross-border telecommunications fraud.
The affected areas include Mon State, Shan State, Karen State, and the frequently scammed areas of Tak and Myawaddy in Myanmar. Thailand has also decided to cut off fuel supplies to these areas and strengthen border control measures.
