The legislative body decided to extend the investigations and wait for the extradition of businessman William Rogatto and the trial that will take place in England against the football player Lucas Paquetá and his uncle Bruno Tolentino.
Brazil.- The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on the Manipulation of Games and Sports Betting canceled the meeting in which the 692-page report prepared by Senator Romário was to be read and decided to extend the investigations. The postponement is due to the expectation of the trial of player Lucas Paquetá, scheduled for March in England, and the wait for the extradition of businessman William Rogatto, detained in Dubai since November.
"We are going to postpone due to the issue of Lucas Paquetá, because his trial is expected to take place in March, and his uncle should already be charged. We want to hear more witnesses, not just about this case. We are also waiting for the extradition of William Rogatto for four months now, we are sending letters to find out why it has not yet been carried out," stated Carlos Portinho, member of the CPI.
According to him, the president of the CPI, Jorge Kajuru, led the collection of signatures to extend the investigations by the Commission.
Among the measures proposed in the report that was to be read yesterday, Tuesday, February 11, is the end of betting on isolated events, such as cards and penalties, the reinforcement in the compliance with the rules of advertising of bets, and the exchange of information between government agencies to combat the manipulation of results.
The decision to cancel the meeting for the reading of the report was taken after the collection of the necessary signatures. The report by Senator Romário should propose the indictment of three people for their involvement in sports manipulations: William Rogatto, known as the "King of Relegations", Thiago Chambó Andrade and Bruno Tolentino, uncle of player Lucas Paquetá.
According to the investigations, William Rogatto made a profit of around R$ 300m (USD 51m) by manipulating results and causing the relegation of 42 clubs in nine countries. He is also a target of Operation VAR, which investigates frauds in the Serie B of the Carioca Championship. Another target of the final report, Bruno Tolentino, is accused of being involved in suspicious betting. Thiago Chambó Andrade is pointed out as one of the financiers of the scheme.
