The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) in Thailand recently submitted evidence related to a human trafficking case to the Office of the Attorney General and recommended issuing arrest warrants for leaders of the Myanmar Border Guard Force (BGF), including Colonel Suchit, Lieutenant Colonel Mote Thone, and Lieutenant Colonel Tin Win. They are suspected of being involved in trafficking eight Indian nationals to Myawaddy, with Thailand being used as a transit point.
However, after investigation, the prosecutor concluded that there was insufficient evidence to apply for arrest warrants at this time. Since the case involves foreign elements, the prosecutor collaborated with the DSI in the investigation and decided to continue searching for more evidence.
The incident occurred between May 15, 2022, and August 13, 2022. Eight Indian nationals were invited by a "broker" and employer in Pakistan to work in telemarketing in Thailand. Upon arriving at Suvarnabhumi Airport, they were transferred to Don Mueang Airport and then traveled to Mae Sot District, Tak Province, where a company arranged transportation to Myawaddy.
The DSI stated that the victims, upon realizing they had been deceived, attempted to resist but were subjected to violent treatment, forced labor, electric shocks, and imprisonment until their families paid a ransom for their release and received assistance from the DSI.
Furthermore, the investigation revealed that a Sino-Thai joint venture company was responsible for transporting the victims, and the BGF in Myawaddy was involved in leasing land in Myanmar. Considering Colonel Suchit's position as the top leader of the BGF, authorities had considered issuing an arrest warrant for him.
