In the meeting, the fight against illegal betting sites and the adaptation of payment methods by regulated companies were addressed.
Brazil.- The president of the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL), Plínio Lemos Jorge, and the legal director of the entity, Pietro Cardia Lorenzoni, participated in a meeting at the Central Bank (Bacen), in Brasilia, to address demands from the regulated sector. On the agenda, the fight against the thousands of illegal sites still operating in the country and the adaptation of payment media companies that support operators who are not authorized to operate in the country were discussed.
The meeting also included the executive secretary of Bacen, Rogério Antonio Lucca; the chief of staff of the executive secretary, Mariane Santiago de Souza Nogueira; the chief of staff of the director of Economic Policy of Bacen, Eduardo José Araújo Lima; and the deputy head of the Department of Competition and Financial Market Structure of Bacen, Ricardo Pereira de Araújo.
“We brought up relevant issues for the sector that directly impact the country's economy. The blocking of illegal sites being carried out by the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) is just one of the important actions that ensure the transparency and security of the betting market,” stated Plínio Lemos Jorge, president of the ANJL.
He then added: “With Bacen, this action can be projected and become even more efficient, starting from the adaptation of the payment media companies that today strengthen the operation of illegal operators”.
The Brazilian government has expressed the need to block sports betting and online gaming sites, but the measures have been ineffective, despite more than 1100 sites being blocked.
