Super Bowl weekend is one of the biggest sports-betting moments of the year, with a record $1.39 billion (was) legally wagered on Sunday’s championship clash between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. That’s up 11.2% from last year’s game, according to a Field Level Media report in the News Tribune last week.
But Minnesota — frustratingly, ridiculously, and yet once again — is being left out.
Nearly 40 other states and the District of Columbia have successfully been able to find a way to legalize the popular activity after a Supreme Court ruling in 2018 opened it up beyond just Nevada. Lawmakers from Oregon to Florida, including every state surrounding Minnesota, compromised and hammered out deals and are now cashing in on a windfall while offering the activity to residents and constituents.
