The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) has released statistics studying the effects of new regulations introduced in October to better protect players.

Overall, the rules have had a positive impact on the market in the first three months since they were implemented.

One of the rules involves a net deposit limit, requiring players to contact the provider before setting a monthly deposit limit (over 150 euros ($157.43) for minors or over 350 euros for adults). This rule was established to allow providers to warn about the dangers of such high deposit limits.

Since the implementation of the new rules, the number of players setting such high deposit limits has dropped to less than 50%, and it is reported that contacting the provider has led to more players reducing their deposit limits.

It is worth noting that earlier this month, the KSA provided additional guidance on mandatory economic status surveys.

There is also a regulation regarding net deposit limits. When players deposit more than 300 euros (young people) or 700 euros (adults), the provider checks if they can afford it. If they cannot afford it or if no check is conducted, the provider must freeze the deposits for the remainder of the month.

As a result, the proportion of adult players exceeding the deposit limit has dropped from 9.7% to 3.8%, and from 12% to 2.8% for younger players. Additionally, due to the reduced deposit limits, the average loss per player account has decreased from 117 euros to 83 euros.

These regulations have led to a 10% decrease in the total betting revenue (BSR) of legal gambling companies after the measures were introduced.

Data shows that excessive gambling behavior with legal providers has decreased, as the proportion of players losing over 1000 euros is now 1%, compared to about 4% before the rules were introduced. Similarly, 91% of players only gamble with legal providers.
