Philippine authorities conducted a joint raid on the basement of a hotel in Pasay City, Manila, suspecting it of operating an illegal offshore gambling business.
According to a mission order, which is likely issued by the Commissioner of Immigration, otherwise it should be an arrest or search warrant signed by a judge with jurisdiction over the location, agents from the Bureau of Immigration, Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-PNP entered the hotel basement and found six Koreans operating desktop computers allegedly related to offshore gambling.
Initial information disclosed that 14 Filipinos were arrested; however, the hotel has not been fully searched yet, so the aforementioned agencies are still verifying how many Filipinos were actually arrested.
A Filipino woman, who accidentally got a job at this site, stated that her job was merely to copy and paste on the desktop, and she has been working there for only a month.
Gilbert Cruz, the Vice Executive Director of the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission, stated that the site involved billions of pesos in cash flow.
The hotel management has not yet issued a statement.
