On January 13, 2025, the Thai Cabinet deliberated and approved the draft of the "Comprehensive Entertainment Center Act" (including the legalization of casinos) submitted by the Ministry of Finance. The draft will then be submitted to the House for deliberation. Despite mixed opinions from the Thai public, the Thai government hopes to use this project to stimulate Thailand's economy and tourism development.
According to the latest news from Thai media PPTV, as the "Comprehensive Entertainment Center" draft further progresses, on February 17, local time, groups such as the Student Public Alliance for Reforming Thailand, the Thai People's Royalist Center, and the Fair Guard Organization, gathered at the Office of the Council of State (OCS) on Phra Athit Road in Bangkok to protest and submit a petition.
They strongly opposed the legalization of casinos in Thailand and online gambling.
It is reported that these organizations blocked the entrance of the Office of the Council of State, holding the Thai flag and carrying placards with messages like "Stop! Casinos!", "Stop Casinos! Protect Society!", "Boycott Casinos!", "Gambling today, heavy burdens tomorrow!", "No Casinos in Thailand!", "Thailand is not the property of the Shinawatra family", expressing their dissatisfaction and resistance to the "Comprehensive Entertainment Center" draft.
