Thailand's measures such as power cuts to combat the Thai-Myanmar scam parks have been somewhat effective, but these scam parks have not disbanded. Instead, they have relocated to Cambodia to resume operations. Shockingly, some of the trapped "piglets" have chosen to continue following the scam gangs.
According to Gu Jianwen, the PR Director of a Malaysian humanitarian organization, some of the rescued victims described being forced to make a choice before the scam group moved their base — to continue to Cambodia with the scam group, or stay and wait for the Myanmar military government to hand them over to the Thai government, who would then arrange for their repatriation.
The scam gang has released over 280 victims, including 15 Malaysians, one of whom mentioned by Gu Jianwen, who were successfully rescued and brought to Thailand.
Gu Jianwen noted that some of the victims who successfully escaped the scam parks are now placed in Thailand, waiting for the authorities to process their departure formalities, and are expected to return to their home countries soon.
