The Secretary-General of the Thai State Council, Pakorn Nilpraphun, explained the progress of the draft "Entertainment Complex Act" at Prince of Songkla University in Hat Yai District, Songkhla Province.
He stated that the bill is currently undergoing a second reading, the initial draft has been completed, and it is now in the overall feedback stage. The public can express their opinions, and these feedbacks will be considered during the second reading.
Mr. Pakorn explained that the implementation of this act will include setting limits on the amount of money Thai people can bring into casinos, with a preliminary idea being a maximum of 50 million Thai Baht per person. This measure is intended to prevent Thai people from becoming addicted to gambling, while also providing an opportunity for public expression.
Additionally, he mentioned that the main agencies involved in the draft include the Ministry of Interior and the Office of Fiscal Policy, responsible for the approval process, licenses, and investment plans, among other details.
Mr. Pakorn emphasized that although the draft is still in the stage of soliciting opinions, it has clear objectives, namely to limit the participation of Thai people in gambling through some preventive measures. He also pointed out that while there is external concern about gambling issues, the Thai government is more focused on providing safe entertainment options through this act, rather than focusing solely on gambling itself.
The further deliberation of the draft will be submitted to the cabinet within 50 days, and the specifics will be adjusted based on public feedback.
