Colonel Saw Chit Thu, Secretary-General of the Border Guard Force (BGF) of Myanmar, stated that the Shwegyin Valley area has legally obtained approval from the National Investment Commission for legitimate construction, urban development housing projects, and hotel development projects, and has not been involved in any fraudulent activities.

Regarding the issue of online fraud in areas such as KK Park in Myawaddy on the Myanmar-Thailand border, Colonel Saw Chit Thu clarified in a meeting with the media at the BGF/KNA frontline base and the Office of Discipline Maintenance on 4th Street in Myawaddy on February 17.

Colonel Saw Chit Thu mentioned that since 2018, under the permission of the National Investment Commission, legitimate construction/urban development housing projects and hotel businesses have been carried out in the Shwegyin Valley area, without any involvement in illegal gambling activities.

He noted that these accusations are due to malicious slander by some individuals, and currently, efforts are underway to arrest those engaged in illegal fraud and criminal activities and to rescue trapped individuals. Arrested individuals will be handed over to Thai authorities according to the law.

Furthermore, in response to the Thai opposition's request for his arrest, Colonel Saw Chit Thu questioned what crime he had committed against Thailand and how he had betrayed Thailand.

He emphasized that he has not committed any misconduct towards Thailand, and the accusations from the members of the Thai opposition are unilateral.

Colonel Saw Chit Thu also stated that he will effectively combat drug trafficking and use issues along the Myanmar-Thailand border and firmly oppose human trafficking and abuse.

It is reported that the Myanmar government, the Karen Border Guard Force, and the Thai government are cooperating to combat illegal fraud operations in Myawaddy, Shwegyin Valley, and KK Park areas.

BGF Leader: Will thoroughly combat fraudulent activities

According to Myanmar media, Colonel Saw Chit Thu, leader of the Border Guard Force (BGF), recently stated that he will launch a thorough crackdown on all online fraud gangs in the Myawaddy area this month.

Thai PBS World reported that Colonel Saw Chit Thu promised that in addition to combating online fraud gangs, he will also cooperate with Thai authorities to eliminate illegal business activities operated by Chinese citizens. Colonel Saw Chit Thu emphasized during a press meeting at BGF headquarters that BGF leaders have not participated in the activities of online fraud gangs, only involving land leasing matters.

The report noted that there are currently about 70,000 foreigners in the Myawaddy area, most of whom are Chinese citizens. To combat related criminal activities, BGF has issued arrest warrants for more than 1,000 individuals suspected of being involved with fraud gangs. This operation aims to thoroughly eliminate illegal online fraud and cross-border criminal activities in the area, further maintaining regional security and stability.
