The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) reiterated its support for the country's Special Class Business Process Outsourcing (SCBPO) industry, recognizing its role in creating thousands of high-quality jobs for Filipinos.
PAGCOR Chairman and CEO Alejandro H. Tengco assured foreign chambers of commerce that the state gaming regulator will continue to support SCBPO and its expanding operations in the country.
He highlighted the industry's contributions to employment and economic growth, noting that these companies have obtained PAGCOR licenses due to their affiliations with international gaming firms.
In explaining his stance, Tengco continued, "The only difference from regular BPOs is that SCBPO supports the operations of overseas legal gaming companies by providing human resources, marketing, graphic design, accounting, and other back-office services, many of which are publicly listed companies.
"We also ensure that SCBPO does not directly engage in accepting or soliciting bets or other gaming operations.
"This industry has tremendous potential, and we are fully committed to its development, creating more job opportunities for our people."
It is worth noting that SCBPO companies must maintain a workforce composed of at least 95% Filipino employees, ensuring local talent enjoys higher-than-industry standards for compensation and job opportunities.
The industry currently employs nearly 5,000 Filipinos and is expected to expand further.
Previously, PAGCOR had committed to funding infrastructure projects for the Philippine Military Academy.
