Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced the state's gaming financial results for January 2025.

Overall, the revenue for the month was $529.1 million, a 10.9% increase year-over-year. By operator, the highest revenue was generated by Valley Forge Casino Resort, with $97.8 million, up 6.5% year-over-year; by gaming business, the highest revenue was from retail slot machines, with $187.8 million, up 4.6% year-over-year.

Operator Revenue

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course was the second highest revenue generator in Pennsylvania, following Valley Forge Casino Resort. The casino earned $92.7 million, marking it as the third highest growth rate among its peers at 50.3%. These two casinos are the only ones with revenues exceeding $90 million. The third highest revenue casino, Rivers Casino Philadelphia, earned $51.2 million, up 5.5%.

As for growth, Golden Nugget reported the largest year-over-year increase. Its revenue jumped from $2.1 million to $7.4 million, a growth rate of 251.7%; however, it is noteworthy that this operator is relatively small in scale. The second highest growth rate was at Presque Isle Downs and Casino, with a 55.8% increase, earning $9.3 million.

Revenue by Division – Retail Slots

In retail slot machines, which brought in $187.8 million in revenue, Parx Casino contributed the most, with $30 million, up 6.6%. Following were Wind Creek Bethlehem, with $21.3 million, up 1.3%; and Rivers Casino Pittsburgh, with $20.6 million, also up 1.3%.

Indeed, while most operators reported growth in retail slot machines (only Valley Forge Casino Resort and Live! Casino Pittsburgh reported declines, both below 2.5%), this growth was relatively modest, with only five operators reporting growth exceeding 10%.

The largest growth was at the casino in Nemacolin, with a 17.2% increase, earning $1.6 million, followed by Parx Shippensburg, with a 14.7% increase, earning $2.9 million.

Revenue by Market Segment – iGaming

Pennsylvania's online casino games (including online slots, table games, and poker) in January totaled $210.2 million in revenue. Among these, online slots generated $158.6 million, up 44.2%, the highest growth among any gaming industry in Pennsylvania.

Hollywood Casino at Penn National Race Course was the highest revenue generator in slots and table games, with online poker revenue ranking second. In January, the combined online gaming revenue was highest at $79.7 million, up 57.9%. This was also the second highest growth rate among operators, with Golden Nugget leading at a 251.7% revenue increase, although its total revenue was only $7.3 million.

Valley Forge Casino Resort was the second highest revenue generator. Slot revenue was $41.4 million, table game revenue was $16.2 million (ranking second in both sub-verticals), with a total revenue of $57.6 million, up 38.5%.

In January, the highest iPoker revenue was at Mount Airy Casino Resort, earning $1.4 million. This accounted for 36% of the operator's total revenue of $3.8 million.

Revenue by Department – Sports Betting

Sports betting revenue was $51.5 million, down 26.4% year-over-year. This was the largest decline in revenue among Keystone state's gaming industries, and one of only two industries to report a decline—the other being iPoker, which fell 2.3% to $2.6 million.

Of this, $49.2 million came from online sports betting, with the remaining $2.3 million from retail betting.

In January, Valley Forge Casino Resort was the highest revenue generator in this field, earning $28.8 million, nearly double the amount from the same period last year. Nonetheless, this figure reflects a 27.2% decline in revenue. The second highest, Hollywood Casino at the Meadows, also saw a similar trend, with revenue down 21.3% to $15 million. In fact, most sports betting operators reported a decline in revenue year-over-year, with only three operators reporting growth, each earning less than $1 million in total revenue.

Among the five casino operators with total revenues exceeding $1 million, Parx Casino saw the largest drop, down 35.2% to $1.1 million. On the other hand, the smallest decline among these five casinos was at Hollywood Casino Morgantown, down 3.7% to $3.4 million.
