According to the Philippine Department of the Interior and Local Government, the family driver of the murdered Chinese student is suspected of conspiring with the criminals.
In a report on "24 Oras" by Jun Veneracion on Thursday, Interior Minister Jonvic Remulla stated that this claim was based on the mobile phone found with the driver.
"When the driver's phone was unlocked, conversations with the criminals appeared. 'You speak to a criminal, you face a criminal's fate, so to eliminate any weak link, the driver was killed immediately,' said Remulla."
The victim's mother denies their family's involvement with Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO), as their business is in e-commerce.
She also claimed that the suspects were dressed in police uniforms during the kidnapping, targeting the driver because he often portrayed himself as living a wealthy life online.
The victim was kidnapped on February 20th after school in Taguig City, and a few days later, the driver was found dead.
Meanwhile, the victim was found on February 25th on Macapagal Boulevard in Parañaque City.
