According to Myanmar media reports, four military officers including the commander of the Northeast Military Region have been detained for investigation due to their suspected involvement in the telecommunications fraud industry. Additionally, the Karen Border Guard Force issued a statement demanding the prompt repatriation of individuals suspected of telecommunications fraud by relevant countries, and criticized the cutting off of electricity, internet, and fuel supplies, which they claim only harms innocent civilians in Myawaddy.
Myanmar media reported that four officers, including the newly appointed commander of the Northeast Military Region, have been detained for investigation due to suspected links to the telecommunications fraud industry. This includes commanders from Shan State’s Mong Yawng and Dangyang, areas which have not experienced conflict but have become hotspots for the spread of telecom fraud originating from northern Myanmar.
After the Northeast Military Region fell last August, the Myanmar military regrouped about 40 miles southeast of Lashio in Mong Yawng. At a military graduation ceremony attended by Min Aung Hlaing at the end of last month, commanders from all military regions except the Northeast Military Region participated in the event.
