Ms. Sasika, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office of Thailand, revealed that the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has been committed to intensifying the crackdown on cybercrime in accordance with the government's emergency policy directives, especially by shutting down various forms of illegal social media pages, web pages, and websites, aiming to break the crime cycle of criminal gangs.
She stated that the data shows that from October 2024 to February 2025 (the first five months of the fiscal year 2025), the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society has cumulatively shut down a total of 80,669 illegal social media pages, web pages, and websites, averaging 16,133 per month, which is a 1.508-fold increase compared to the same period in fiscal year 2024.
The specific types are as follows:
Online gambling types: 31,832, a 1.3-fold increase year-on-year;
Online fraud types: 21,939, a 0.8769-fold decrease year-on-year;
Other types: 26,898, a 6.565-fold increase year-on-year.
Furthermore, she further stated that with the continuous integration of efforts by various relevant departments to monitor cybercrime, the data on blocking illegal social media pages, web pages, and websites has achieved substantial year-on-year growth.
In the future, the government will continue to collaborate with relevant departments to carry out blocking operations to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and national security.
