According to foreign media reports, the National Bank of Cambodia (Cambodian Central Bank) has officially revoked the banking license of Huiwang Payment. Huiwang Payment is affiliated with the Cambodian Huiwang Group, which is accused of operating the world's largest illegal online trading platform, involving an amount of up to 24 billion US dollars.
A spokesperson for the Cambodian Central Bank confirmed via email to foreign media on March 6 that Huiwang Payment's banking license was revoked for failing to comply with current regulations and requirements of regulatory authorities. However, the central bank did not disclose the specific time of revocation, nor did it specify the legal consequences the company would face if it continued to operate.
A Chinese compatriot inquired with Huiwang Group's customer service, who replied: Hello, the Huiwang headquarters is operating normally. Please do not easily believe in rumors; this information is not true.
However, according to some netizens, the news has caused some panic, with many people queuing up at Huiwang stores to withdraw money. Moreover, some Chinese merchants have also temporarily stopped using Huiwang for transfers.
A Chinese compatriot engaged in business in Cambodia posted on social media: According to various online platforms in Cambodia, Huiwang may have had its business license canceled. Therefore, starting today, our company will temporarily stop accepting any form of Huiwang transfers. We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Another Chinese merchant said: We have noticed this news, but we have not yet stopped. We need to arrange for staff to go to the Huiwang branch to see the situation.
However, many netizens said: Is Huiwang going to experience another run on the bank; no impact, the company operates normally; true and false, false and true; Huiwang can be checked at will, now renamed to Haowang; hurry up and withdraw your money, or it will be investigated and frozen, etc.
