The Presidential Palace of the Philippines (Malacañang) confirmed on the 11th that former President Rodrigo Duterte has been detained following his arrival in Manila, based on an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
According to a statement released by the Presidential Palace, a copy of the ICC's arrest warrant was officially delivered through Interpol in Manila on the morning of March 11th and was executed upon Duterte's return to the Philippines from Hong Kong.
The statement noted that the former president is currently under the custody of law enforcement agencies, is in good health, and has undergone a health check by a government-appointed doctor.
"The government medical team has assured Duterte that his health is fine," stated the Presidential Communications Office (PCO).
The Presidential Palace further explained that the personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who carried out the arrest were equipped with body cameras to ensure that the arrest process was conducted properly.
Currently, the government has not disclosed any further legal proceedings for Duterte.
