The Cambodian police launched a raid on a park in Mondulkiri province involved in telecommunications fraud, successfully capturing 258 foreign nationals suspected of illegal detention, forced labor, and violent crimes.
The operation was led by Sar Thet, the Director-General of the Cambodian National Police, in collaboration with the Mondulkiri provincial police. They conducted a surprise inspection of the "Mekong 74" building in Sen Monorom city. At the scene, the police controlled 258 suspects, including 247 Chinese nationals, 9 from Myanmar, and one each from Malaysia and Vietnam.
The police identified 14 key suspects involved in violent coercion, including 7 Chinese and 7 from Myanmar. It is reported that these individuals allegedly forced others to engage in illegal work through intimidation and beating. Additionally, a Chinese victim, coerced, was taken to the Mondulkiri provincial police station to assist in the investigation.
Besides the key suspects, the remaining 243 detainees (including 239 Chinese, 2 from Myanmar, 1 Malaysian, and 1 Vietnamese) have been transferred to the Cambodian Immigration Department, facing illegal residency and deportation procedures.
The Cambodian police emphasized that this operation is a key measure by the government to combat human trafficking and transnational crime, and they will continue to strengthen law enforcement to curb illegal activities and ensure social security.
