The well-known Philippine electronic payment platform GCash announced that from today until May 12, it will implement temporary daily transaction limits for "Express Send" and "Send via QR" to prevent potential vote-buying activities during the 2025 midterm elections. The platform will resume normal transaction limits after May 13.
In addition to personal accounts, GCash business accounts are also subject to this restriction. According to Resolution No. 11104 of the Philippine Election Commission (Comelec), during the election period, daily cash withdrawals exceeding 500,000 pesos or abnormal large fund movements between accounts, without reasonable economic justification, will be considered suspicious transactions and subject to strict scrutiny.
The Philippine Election Commission (Comelec) has previously stated that it will take stricter measures to combat vote-buying, vote-selling, and the misuse of state resources during elections to ensure the fairness and transparency of the 2025 elections.
GCash users, especially Chinese merchants and businesses, should pay close attention to platform announcements and make financial arrangements in advance to avoid normal business operations being affected by transaction restrictions.
