According to reports from Myanmar media on March 13, Myanmar police launched a raid in Tangyan Township, northern Shan State, on March 12, successfully arresting 166 individuals suspected of involvement in online gambling and telecommunications fraud. Among them, 165 were foreign nationals who had entered the country illegally, and one was a Myanmar national.
In this operation, law enforcement officers seized a batch of computers, mobile phones, and other electronic devices, suspected to be used for online fraud and illegal gambling activities. Currently, the police are further investigating the specific uses of these devices and the backgrounds of the individuals involved.
Reports indicate that the Myanmar authorities have not yet disclosed the specific nationalities of the 165 arrested foreign nationals, and relevant departments are conducting identity verification. This operation demonstrates the Myanmar government's increased efforts to combat cybercrime within the country, especially targeting those who engage in fraud after entering the country illegally.
The Myanmar police urge the public to actively report similar criminal activities to maintain public order and prevent more people from falling into the trap of online fraud.
