Mexico.- Mexican soccer is going through a new controversy related to match-fixing, amid allegations that involve both players from the Liga MX and the Liga Premier MX, the promotion tournament, now a serious accusation has been added against the Uruguayan footballer Facundo Waller, from the first division.
The accusation comes from journalist Pepe Henan, who, in his column for EnLinea Noticias, exposed details about a suspicious pattern in the yellow cards Waller received during the tournament. According to the information, Waller was cautioned at unusual times and circumstances, suggesting there might have been intentional manipulation of his behavior on the field. Henan revealed that in the first six games of the season, the player accumulated five yellow cards, four of them between minutes 66 and 75, and on matchday 9, a red card at minute 72.
The journalist pointed out that the coincidence in the exact moments of the cautions raises suspicion that they could be related to illegal betting, a problem that had already affected Mexican soccer in the past, with similar cases related to the former goalkeeper of Puebla, the Argentine Christian Campestrini. Although Henan clarifies that he has no conclusive evidence, he considers the amount of indications sufficient to open an investigation.
Recently, a new complaint has emerged, this time in the Liga MX, when a famous gambler and influencer, Cristian Rey, revealed that a current player of Pumas de la UNAM had been involved in his betting activities. In a podcast, Rey mentioned that the footballer from the university team was part of one of his groups on WhatsApp where tips and advice for betting on different competitions are shared.
