Despite the Brazilian government's efforts to curb them, unauthorized platforms have recorded 30 million accesses in the first two months of the year and evade supervision.
Brazil.- In the first two months of 2025, illegal betting in Brazil has generated an estimated movement of R$350m (USD60m) according to data revealed by the portal Aposta Legal. Despite the measures implemented by the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting (SPA), under the Ministry of Finance, which has blocked more than 10,000 irregular domains from 2024 to February 2025, these platforms registered 30 million accesses in January and February.
Although this figure represents less than 1 percent of the 2 billion accesses to the legal market in the same period, the financial volume shows the difficulty of controlling a digital sector in constant transformation.
Among the most visited sites are Bingo em Casa (with 3.2 million visits) and BC.Game (with 1.4 million). According to Aposta Legal, the R$350m estimate was calculated by projecting the relationship between traffic and financial movement of the regulated market, which expects to reach R$240,000m (USD41,000m) in 2025 with 1.7 billion accesses just in January.
Despite the blocks, a report from UOL indicates that about 80 percent of the sanctioned sites remain active, either by maintaining their content, redirecting users, or reappearing under new URLs. This phenomenon challenges supervision and exposes risks for bettors, who lack legal guarantees when operating on unauthorized platforms.
