The Brazilian government requested that Google's video platform remove 53 accounts and 25 channels that promote illegal gambling sites.
Brazil.- The National Secretariat for Sports Betting and Economic Development of Sport (Snaede), from the Ministry of Sport, asked YouTube to remove 53 accounts and 25 channels that were identified promoting irregular betting platforms and promising easy earnings. These channels attract audiences of over 100,000 viewers per broadcast.
This request comes shortly after Google, the technology conglomerate that manages YouTube, announced that it will adopt new advertising rules on the video platform starting March 19. The company will prohibit content creators from promoting betting houses and online casino sites that are not legalized in the country where the digital influencer resides.
According to YouTube's support page, content creators will not be able to disclose URLs of uncertified betting houses in the country. They are also prohibited from including links, displaying images or texts, including the company's logo. It is even forbidden to mention anything about these platforms in the videos.
Furthermore, according to the platform's guidelines, content that promises easy earnings can also be removed, regardless of whether the betting site is legalized or not.
The Ministry of Sport sent the list of irregular YouTube channels to the Ministry of Justice, the Federal Police, and reported the case during a public hearing at the Supreme Federal Court.
