The Undersecretary of the Secretariat of Awards and Betting received the "Diploma of Merit" from the Financial Activities Control Council.
Brazil.- The Undersecretary of the Secretariat of Awards and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance, Carolina Yumi de Souza, received the Diploma of Merit from the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf). The ceremony took place at the Council's headquarters in Brasilia.
Established in 2011, the award annually honors personalities and/or institutions that have stood out in the field of prevention and fight against money laundering or terrorism financing. The main criteria are: the performance of services, works or studies relevant in the prevention and combat of money laundering or terrorism financing; the performance of services, works or studies that have benefited or supported Coaf in the performance of its activities; and the practice of an act, contribution to a fact or exercise of a function that justify a special tribute by Coaf.
The president of Coaf, Ricardo Liáo, stated that the agency faces new challenges with the growth of sectors such as virtual assets, betting, and environmental crimes. He also highlighted the improvement of processes and the "remarkable increase in the exchange of financial intelligence information".
Upon receiving the award, the Undersecretary of the SPA stated: "We took on a gigantic challenge and everyone who is part of this community welcomed us. Therefore, I want to thank not only for the award but also for allowing me to be part of this community."
