State and federal forces join efforts to eradicate illegal machines in commercial premises in the state of Michoacán.
Mexico.- The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Michoacán has launched an inter-institutional operation in Uruapan with the purpose of combating violence and preventing crimes such as extortion. This action involves the Civil Guard, the National Defense Secretariat (Sedena), the State Attorney General's Office (FGE), and the Municipal Police, focusing on the seizure of illegal slot machines, identified as generators of criminal activities.
The operation, which started this Thursday, March 13, is based on intelligence work carried out by the Specialized Investigation Subsecretariat (SIE) of the Civil Guard, in collaboration with federal, state, and municipal forces. These actions aim to locate and confiscate illegal devices operating in commercial premises, which have been pointed out as conflict points linked to criminal groups.
The Secretary of Public Security, Juan Carlos Oseguera Cortés, highlighted the importance of this strategy: "Commercial establishments with these devices are points generating violence by criminal groups, therefore, we are reinforcing our operations to ensure and thus help eradicate crimes in the city."
So far this year, between January and February, authorities have seized 105 slot machines in Uruapan. To strengthen this fight, the SSP has established coordination with the Mexican Army, the National Guard, the FGE, and the Municipal Police, with the goal of restoring public order and reducing criminal incidence in areas where these devices operate.
