The Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thapanee Kiatphaiboon, announced that Thailand has launched a new electronic wallet system—“TAGTHAi Easy Pay”, aimed at providing foreign tourists with a more convenient payment method.
This system is used in conjunction with Kasikornbank's Prepaid PAY&TOUR card, allowing tourists to make payments through Thailand's QR payment system just like locals, reducing the hassle of exchanging cash. This initiative is a key step in enhancing Thailand's modern tourism experience, aimed at meeting the needs of tourists in the digital age, and as part of the “Amazing Thailand Grand Tourism & Sports Year 2025” plan, it aims to achieve a tourism revenue target of 3.5 trillion Thai baht by 2025.
Digital trends make tourists more reliant on digital platforms
The President of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, Glint Sarsin, stated that by 2024, the TAGTHAi app's downloads had exceeded 2 million, and sales had increased by 183%, showing that tourists are increasingly inclined to use digital platforms for travel and consumption. The launch of “TAGTHAi Easy Pay” not only provides tourists with a convenient payment method but also helps distribute income to tourism businesses and merchants across the country, benefiting both major and minor cities.
Free download, recharge, and enjoy discounts
Tourists can download the TAGTHAi app for free on iOS and Android platforms, and register and recharge the Prepaid PAY&TOUR card for free, without any handling fees. Through this system, tourists can also receive limited edition TAGTHAi souvenirs and discounts offered by partners. This initiative marks an important step in the digital transformation process of Thailand's tourism industry, not only enhancing the convenience for tourists but also injecting new vitality into Thailand's tourism economy.
