Two US politicians have come together to reintroduce the Safe Bet Act, which aims to improve responsible gaming measures in sports betting.
Congressman Paul D. Tonko (NY-20) and Senator Richard Blumenthal are leading the charge on the Supporting Affordability & Fairness with Every Bet Act, which was first introduced in September last year.
The proposed legislation looks to establish federal standards on sports betting regarding advertising, affordability and artificial intelligence – “while preserving the opportunity for anyone who wishes to participate in legal sports betting.”
The Public Health Advocacy Institute (PHAI) at Northeastern University School of Law has thrown its support behind the bill.
Director of gambling policy at PHAI, Dr. Harry Levant, said the Safe Bet Act “protects the public by replacing the ethically flawed 'responsible gaming' model with comprehensive public health solutions designed to prevent gambling-related harm."
