The innovative casino game BROG made its debut at the Jeju Shinhwa World Casino in South Korea and was launched last month at the Seoul Dragon City casino operated by Grand Korea Leisure (GKL), with plans to expand to other casinos in three months. BROG is the first table game developed and approved in South Korea in 50 years, inspired by the glass stepping stone challenge from the Netflix series "Squid Game," bringing a new trend to the casino industry.
GKL's Deputy Manager of New Business, Choi Mun-cheon, is responsible for developing BROG, which stands for the colors of the four seasons: Winter Black (B), Autumn Red (R), Summer Orange (O), and Spring Green (G), enhancing brand recognition.
Choi Mun-cheon explained that BROG has a unique game mechanism, different from Baccarat or Blackjack, focusing on players' survival strategies. The game is divided into four rounds, with odds doubling after each win, but all bets go to the casino if lost. Players have the opportunity to win a 60x side bet, adding tension to the game while requiring careful risk management.
The expected return rate for BROG is 2.56%, similar to "Casino War." Currently, one BROG machine is operated at the Seoul Dragon City casino, with considerations to expand to other GKL casinos, including the Seoul Gangnam COEX Casino and the Busan Lotte Hotel Casino, in three months. BROG attracts younger players, with an average age of about 30, lower than the traditional casino games' players who are over 50.
GKL plans to formulate an expansion strategy within three months. BROG's operational license from the central government of GKL is valid until June 2026, and it needs to demonstrate strong market performance to become the 19th officially recognized casino game in South Korea.
At the Jeju Casino Forum, Jeju Shinhwa World Casino showed interest in BROG and introduced the game. The Jeju government independently manages the island's eight casinos, and the BROG license is in place. Rod Hackman, Vice President of Casino Operations at Jeju Shinhwa World Casino, confirmed that the casino operates one BROG machine and has set a minimum betting limit.
Choi Mun-cheon stated that GKL plans to exhibit BROG at the G2E ASIA exhibition in 2026 to enhance international visibility. The Philippine CASINO PLUS company has shown interest in BROG, considering it suitable for online platforms and electronic casino games, indicating BROG's potential for digital development.
