The Philippine Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) revealed that detained Chinese businessman Tony Yang (Yang Jianxin) was urgently sent to St. Luke's Medical Center in Taguig City for treatment after coughing up blood for several days.
In a statement released early Tuesday morning, PAOCC indicated that Yang complained of chest pain to the duty officer around 1 PM on Monday and showed his blood-stained handkerchief. The duty personnel immediately arranged for him to be sent for medical examination.
The initial diagnosis by the hospital suggested that Yang might have tuberculosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and he is currently waiting for further laboratory test results. PAOCC noted that he has been experiencing symptoms of coughing up blood for three consecutive days, and his condition is quite severe, requiring ongoing medical attention.
Yang Jianxin was identified as a key figure in the Senate investigation into Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (Pogo). His name also appeared on the complaint list of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) office in Northern Mindanao, with allegations including forgery of public documents, perjury, and violation of the 1936 law on the use of aliases.
Furthermore, Yang Jianxin is the brother of former President Rodrigo Duterte's economic adviser Michael Yang, both of whom have had some influence in the Philippine political and business circles.
PAOCC added that Yang is one of several detainees recently sent to the hospital due to health issues, but his condition is more severe and requires urgent attention. The commission stated that it will continue to monitor Yang's condition and decide on further actions based on the medical team's assessment.
