In recent years, Cambodia's "Mango Garden Area" has frequently become the focus of media attention. Originally used as agricultural land, the Mango Garden Area has been repeatedly raided by law enforcement due to suspicions of online gambling and telecommunications fraud, sparking widespread discussion.

Raid Operations in the Mango Garden Area

On October 24, 2024, the Deputy Director of the National Police of Cambodia, Di Weijie, personally led a team to raid the Mango Garden Area in Gombisei County, Shiju Province. During this operation, the police detained hundreds of suspects, including Chinese citizens, suspected of engaging in online gambling and telecommunications fraud.

Subsequently, on October 31, the Ministry of Interior police escorted 25 Chinese suspects to the Phnom Penh Primary Court for interrogation. These suspects were accused of engaging in illegal online gambling activities in the Mango Garden Area.

Exposure and Impact of Illegal Activities

According to reports, the Mango Garden Area was originally a mango processing factory, later converted into a hub for online gambling and telecommunications fraud. The existence of these illegal activities not only damages Cambodia's international image but also negatively affects local public security. The police raids aim to combat such criminal activities and maintain social order.

On social media platforms, discussions about the Mango Garden Area have also attracted widespread attention. Users on platforms like TikTok have shared related videos and information, revealing the illegal activities within the area. For example, videos show that after the Mango Garden Area was raided, hundreds were arrested, with police continuing their arrest operations.

Government Response Measures

Facing the rampant online gambling and telecommunications fraud, the Cambodian government has intensified its crackdown. The Director-General of the National Police, Su Tong, emphasized at the national police chiefs' conference the need to intensify efforts to combat all types of crime and enhance Cambodia's national image. He pointed out that Cambodia has recently been attacked by a large amount of false information, severely tarnished, affecting investment and tourism sectors adversely. Therefore, all departments must pay close attention, report cases involving kidnapping or violence promptly, and swiftly carry out investigations and evidence collection.

Conclusion

The incidents in the Mango Garden Area reflect the challenges Cambodia faces in combating online gambling and telecommunications fraud. The government's proactive actions demonstrate its determination to maintain public security and enhance the national image. However, to completely eradicate such criminal activities, the joint efforts of all sectors of society, along with stricter supervision and legal measures, are required.
