Recently, the police in Phnom Penh successfully cracked down on a criminal gang suspected of cross-border illegal online activities in a hidden apartment on Road 494 in Sangkat Boeung Trabek. During the operation, 186 Chinese nationals, including individuals from Mainland China and Taiwan, were arrested on the spot.
According to the police report, after months of investigation, it was confirmed that the gang had been using the apartment as a cover to conduct large-scale telecommunications fraud. After the operation commenced, law enforcement officers seized a large amount of electronic equipment and other tools used in the crimes at the scene.
All suspects have now been taken to the National Police Headquarters, and the case is being further processed according to judicial procedures. Preliminary investigations suggest that the gang, suspected to be led by Taiwanese, specifically targeted victims from Mainland China and set up fraudulent companies. It is reported that the gang's monthly income from fraud exceeded 30 million yuan, with the total amount involved in the cases exceeding 100 million yuan.
The police emphasized that this operation is a severe crackdown on cross-border telecommunications fraud crimes, aimed at effectively curbing such criminal activities, protecting the safety of citizens' property, and preventing more people from becoming victims.
