The Dutch Gambling Authority (KSA) has intensified efforts to combat the growing problem of illegal gambling apps, with 20 such apps removed from app stores since the beginning of 2025.
These apps often masquerade as harmless games or are promoted through social media platforms, frequently redirecting users to unlicensed gambling sites.
In some cases, they falsely display the brands of legitimate operators, such as misusing the logo of Holland Casino.
Many of these apps are also accessible to minors, further raising concerns about youth exposure to gambling content.
According to the KSA, a common strategy is to promote games like "Plinko" variants, which link users to illegal gambling platforms upon download.
The regulatory body emphasizes the importance of consumer participation, urging individuals to report suspicious apps—especially by identifying app names through promotional links.
Notably, reports can be submitted through KSA's complaint channels, including Meld Vals Spel, an industry platform designed to report illegal gambling content.
These latest measures align with KSA's broader 2025 strategy, which focuses on protecting consumer rights and combating unlicensed operations.
In addition to targeting mobile apps, KSA also collaborates with app stores to ensure the swift removal of reported illegal content.
