The well-known Chinese expatriate leader in the Philippines, dubbed the "Steel King," Anson Que, and his driver were kidnapped on the 29th of last month. The family paid a total of 210 million pesos (about 29 million Hong Kong dollars) in ransom in three installments, yet both were still brutally murdered, and their bodies were discovered on the 9th.
Bodies Wrapped in Plastic Bags and Duct Tape
According to reports from Philippine media, the victims were Anson Que, the owner of Elison Steel Company in Marikina City, Manila, and his driver. Their bodies were placed in nylon bags, their faces wrapped with duct tape, and abandoned in Macabud, Rodriguez town, Rizal province, where they were found on the 9th.
Anson Que's Lexus LM350 multi-purpose vehicle was found on April 8th in Bahay Toro, Quezon City, Manila. Local residents told the police that the vehicle was abandoned by two men in hoodies around 4 PM on March 29th.
Anti-Kidnapping Commander Replaced
As of the night of the 9th, Philippine police have not yet clarified the case details, but reliable sources indicate that the original commander of the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) has been replaced.
Reports state that Anson Que and his driver were kidnapped in Bulacan province on March 29th.
The victims' family told the police that they had received messages from the kidnappers demanding a huge ransom in US dollars.
Famous Philippine media personality Nanwen Dufu announced on social media last night that sources revealed the family initially paid 60 million pesos, followed by an additional 150 million pesos as ransom. However, Que and his driver were still tragically killed.
Dufu stated that the case not only raises serious concerns about public safety but also significantly impacts the credibility of the Philippine police.
Started in Steel Trading After Migrating from Fujian
Anson Que, originally from Fujian, moved to the Philippines in 1985 and started a steel trading company in the early 1990s. He initially dealt in secondary steel materials before transitioning to wholesale of steel profiles in partnership with others. Within a few years, his business flourished.
After achieving business success, Que became active in several major Filipino-Chinese associations. He held positions such as founding president of the Philippines China Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Traveling Chinese Five Surnames Federation, chairman of the Traveling Fen Yang Que Clan Association, chairman of the Federation of Alumni Associations in the Philippines, honorary president of the Fujian General Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines, honorary president of the Philippine Restaurant Chamber of Commerce, honorary chairman of the Filipino-Chinese Philanthropic Association, president of the Philippine Yongchun Fellow Countrymen Association, chairman of the World Yongchun Societies Federation, chairman of the headquarters of the Hongmen Progressive Party in the Philippines, and president of the Filipino-Chinese Quanzhou Association.
Additionally, a Fujian official media once reported that Anson Que, originally from Yongchun, Fujian, has donated over 20 million yuan to his hometown since 1985.
