The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) has released a new monitoring report indicating that the responsible gaming measures implemented in October 2024 have reduced player losses.
These responsible gaming measures (including deposit limits) resulted in only 1.2% of players losing more than 1,000 euros per month in the second half of 2024.
The report shows that the total gaming revenue (GSR) reached 1.47 billion euros (1.67 billion US dollars) in 2024, a 6% increase from the previous year. However, the amount of money circulating in the illegal gambling market has increased, with illegal gambling expenditures now accounting for 50% of total gambling expenditures.
In the past six months, the average monthly increase in new account numbers was 90,000 euros, and the growth in new account numbers may be related to the recently introduced safer gambling measures. Although most Dutch players still choose to gamble with legal gambling companies, 91% of players have registered on legal platforms.
It is worth noting that the authorities will continue to monitor and focus on illegal gambling activities.
The report also focuses on young people aged 18 to 23, who have a disproportionately high percentage of gambling losses. Although they lose an average of 48 euros per month, this group accounts for 11% of total gambling losses, which is higher than their 9% share of the adult population.
The growth in the number of new accounts is consistent with KSA's strict crackdown on automatic gaming and stricter gambling rules. Recent data shows that the number of players setting high deposit limits has decreased, and average losses have also declined.
