FDJ United announced the data for the first quarter of 2025.
Based on the preparation basis, revenue decreased by 1.4% year-on-year to 925 million euros (1.05 billion US dollars).
The French lottery and retail sports betting sector grew by 3.6%, reaching 640 million euros, thanks to a 6% increase in bets.
When investigating how players purchase tickets, retail sales point revenue grew by 2%, reaching 561 million euros, with bets increasing by 5%.
The growth in retail revenue may be attributed to the launch of cash register instant games in February, the expansion of the football betting range brought by the new European competition format, and the success of French clubs this quarter.
Compared to the first quarter of last year, online lottery revenue grew by 14%, reaching 79 million euros. This growth means that online sales now account for 15% of French lottery revenue.
The revenue of the online betting and gaming sector was most impacted, decreasing by 9.8% to 231 million euros. Despite a 5% increase in the number of players compared to the fourth quarter of 2024 and a 10% increase compared to the first quarter of 2024, there was still no decline.
FDJ United noted that regulation in the UK is stricter, and taxes in the Netherlands have "significantly increased"—the tax rate on total gaming revenue rose from 30.5% to 34.2%.
In the Netherlands alone, revenue decreased by 41%, and FDJ United also noted that this led to a channelization rate falling below 50% in that jurisdiction.
The company pointed out that without the UK or the Netherlands, online betting and gaming revenue would have grown by 8%.
It is worth noting that FDJ United is composed of FDJ and Kindred, the latter of which was acquired in October last year for 2.45 billion euros.
FDJ United Chairman and CEO Stéphane Pallez stated: "The performance of FDJ United in the first quarter is in line with the development trajectory of the 2025 plan.
"In the context of stricter regulation and taxation in some markets, the company's sales points have shown good momentum, and the number of online active players in all markets has increased.
"In addition, the group is fully committed to implementing the transformation related to the internationalization and digitalization strategy."
FDJ United announced a brand reshaping strategy in its 2024 financial performance report, and the company also detailed the four main focuses for the coming year.
International lottery revenue decreased by 21.8%, but compared to last year's 49 million euros, revenue decreased by 38 million euros. FDJ United attributed this to "an unusually high number of lottery jackpot winners."
Finally, payments and services grew slightly by 0.6%, reaching 16 million euros.
