The commander of the Thailand Cybercrime Suppression Division (TCSD), Major General Trirong Phiwpaen, recently announced a shocking gambling-related case involving law enforcement agencies. The investigation revealed that Saimai Police Station might be suspected of sheltering online gambling activities and is currently under internal review.
The case originated from a tip-off provided by the civic organization "Kan Jom Phalang." The police targeted a gambling website named isb888bet.com and obtained solid evidence showing that some individuals openly wore uniforms with the website's name to promote and lure the public into participating in online gambling. According to Thai law, such actions could lead to a maximum sentence of 2 years in prison and a fine of 2000 Thai Baht.
"Whether the website is still operational or not, we will investigate thoroughly," emphasized Major General Trirong. Even if the website has been shut down, the case is not subject to the statute of limitations. Investigators are checking the operational status of the website and tracing all involved parties.
More shockingly, the investigation directly points to Saimai Police Station. The police have revealed that they have evidence that some personnel from the station might have improper dealings with the online gambling group. Major General Trirong stated, "We plan to issue subpoenas to the involved officers next week, requiring them to explain the allegations."
This case not only exposes the rampant situation of online gambling in Thailand but also triggers strong public doubts about the integrity of the law enforcement departments. Analysts point out that this might be one of the most severe trust crises faced by the Thai police in recent years. As the investigation deepens, more details are likely to emerge.
