Myanmar continues to escalate its crackdown on illegal entry and cross-border crime. According to official Myanmar media, eight Filipino nationals were detained by law enforcement for smuggling into the Myawaddy area of Kayin State and the well-known KK Industrial Zone, and are currently awaiting deportation.
As reported by Myanmar's Department of Immigration and Border Affairs, these individuals entered the country through irregular channels and are suspected of violating immigration regulations. They have now been transferred to the relevant authorities for legal processing.
Statistical data indicates that since January 30, 2025, a total of 9,040 illegal entrants have been apprehended nationwide in Myanmar. Of these, 7,311 have been deported with the assistance of Thailand, while 1,728 are in the process of being prepared for deportation.
The Myanmar Immigration Bureau noted that among these illegal entrants, some are suspected of involvement in online fraud syndicates, while others are victims of transnational human trafficking. Currently, the Myanmar government is actively cooperating with international organizations and neighboring countries to verify the identities of detained individuals and promote a humane deportation process, while also intensifying patrols and law enforcement in key border areas.
The Myanmar authorities emphasize that combating illegal immigration and cross-border crime has become a priority task for national security and foreign affairs, and they will continue to advance border governance to ensure domestic security and social stability.
