Last year, the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) modified some content on its website regarding system audits, system reviews, and compliance audit procedures, which caused some confusion among licensees in the industry.
Typically, providers have 60 days to complete system audits and reviews, and 90 days to complete compliance audits.
The new updates added two audit statuses, "Resolved in Audit Phase" and "Partially Compliant," for providers to use when issues are found during the process.
However, not everyone is clear on how to handle these.
Therefore, MGA released a document explaining which options providers should use.
For example, if they find minor issues during the audit that can be immediately fixed, they can mark them as "Resolved in Audit Phase."
However, if issues are found that cannot be immediately resolved but are likely to be resolved in the near future, companies can use "Partially Compliant."
Both must come with explanations of the issues, fixes, and any future action plans.
It is worth noting that over the past year, MGA has made changes to the application requirements, audit and review processes, alternative dispute resolution procedures, certificate applications, personal information forms, equipment exhibition regulations, and financial reporting requirements for non-profit raffles and lotteries, to name a few.
To expedite this process, MGA also added three folders that companies need to use.
The correct information must be submitted to the system audit folder, system review folder, or compliance audit folder, respectively.
The Authority hopes to make the process smoother by ensuring all information is submitted to the correct place.
MGA also requires providers to name the files based on the content they represent.
Finally, providers need to explain why the file is considered "sufficient and conclusive" for the audit.
It's not just licensed service providers that catch the attention of the Authority, but also illegal service providers.
Recently, after casinowinner.io claimed to have a license from the regulatory authority, MGA had to issue a statement.
