In March, spending by players in Virginia on sports betting increased, driving a 6.4% year-over-year growth in adjusted total revenue.
The adjusted total revenue from sports betting in Virginia for the month reached $45.1 million, surpassing the $42.4 million reported in March of last year, but down 27.1% from February.
In March, mobile gaming revenue accounted for $44.4 million of the total revenue, with retail gaming revenue at $692,282. This is according to data released by the Virginia Lottery.
In terms of expenditure, total spending for the month reached $689.7 million, an increase of 8% over the same period last year and 23.9% over February.
Of this, $683.1 million was wagered through online and mobile platforms in Virginia, with the remaining $6.6 million bet at retail sports betting platforms throughout the state. This resulted in a statewide hold percentage of 6.58%.
Although the Virginia Lottery does not release information on individual operators, it does disclose some other data.
The monthly report shows that in March, players received $639 million in returns from sports betting. Additionally, there were about $5.6 million in undisclosed "other deductions".
As for taxes, sports betting revenue in March was $6.8 million. Of this, approximately $6.6 million was allocated to the general fund, and $168,873 was allocated to the problem gambling treatment and support fund.
In March, a total of 14 mobile operators and 3 casinos were authorized to accept bets in Virginia.
