Recently, the Malaysian police launched a large-scale raid in the area of Sungai Buloh in Selangor, targeting illegal gambling and cockfighting activities, arresting over 120 individuals involved, and exposing a long-standing illegal betting network in rural areas.
According to The Star, the raid took place at a venue called "Melwood Arena," led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the National Police Headquarters in Bukit Aman, with the support of a drone team and veterinary officers, involving a total of 94 personnel. The operation, named "Ops Dadu Mega," was conducted after months of surveillance by the police.
The Deputy Director of Criminal Investigation, Datuk Fadil Marsus, reported that the arrested individuals included 46 Malaysian citizens and 78 Indonesians, suspected of participating in illegal cockfighting and underground lottery gambling. During the operation, the police seized 52 live chickens, 7 dead chickens, a large amount of gambling equipment, and cash totaling 145,855 Malaysian Ringgit.
The case is currently being investigated under Section 4A(a) of the 1953 Common Gaming Houses Act and the Immigration Act, as the police suspect that the venue has been secretly operating for a long time, potentially involving an organized crime network.
Datuk Fadil urged the public to actively report illegal gambling activities to the police. He emphasized that community involvement is a crucial part of combating gambling and animal abuse, and the police will continue to intensify enforcement efforts to identify all individuals involved, showing no tolerance.
The police also stated that they would track down more behind-the-scenes culprits based on the progress of the investigation and punish all those involved according to the law.
