On May 29, Thai police reported that a fugitive Chinese telecom fraud suspect, Ma (41 years old, phonetically translated), was arrested in Bangkok recently. He is accused of assisting illegal entry and hiding his identity for a long time. It is claimed that he is involved in cases amounting to 10 billion Thai Baht.
The Chief of Bangkok Police, Sayan, ordered the operation, and on May 28, police raided a residence in the neighboring Bell District of Bangkok, successfully capturing Ma who was hiding there. According to reports, Ma has been involved in a case of illegally assisting Chinese citizens to smuggle into Thailand since 2022, when three Chinese people entered Thailand through the Thai-Myanmar border, with the operation funded by Ma.
Further investigation revealed that Ma is associated with an illegal entertainment venue in the Brilliant District of Bangkok, which specifically serves Chinese customers. The venue was raided in 2024, where drugs and 31 staff members were detained. Police tracking found that Ma was often active in that area, eventually pinpointing his hiding place.
The police stated that Ma is a key fugitive in China, suspected of organizing large-scale telecom fraud in Wuhan, involving amounts up to 10 billion Thai Baht, and had also assisted others in smuggling to Myanmar. According to Chinese authorities, he is a member of an active fraud gang, and extradition procedures have now been initiated.
Additionally, the investigation has implicated other suspects, including Aikara (phonetically translated), a former navy officer, who not only arranged accommodation for Ma but is also suspected of shooting a former Cambodian MP in Bangkok in early 2024.
Currently, Ma has been transferred to the police in Meisuo County for further processing, and the case is still under investigation.
