Operator Betsson AB announced that it has officially exited the originally planned acquisition of Holland Gaming Technology Ltd and Holland Power Gaming BV, and has explicitly stated that it will seek other development opportunities.
This acquisition plan was initially announced in February 2024, and the completion of the transaction was pending approval from the Dutch gambling regulatory authority (KSA). However, due to KSA's prolonged delay in making a regulatory decision on the transaction, Betsson exercised its right to suspend the transaction. Currently, the company will reclaim the initially paid 26.7 million euros (approximately 30.4 million US dollars) and return all rights of the two Dutch gambling technology companies to the original owners.
It is noteworthy that the day before Betsson announced its withdrawal from the transaction, it was fined 6.5 million Swedish kronor (approximately 680,000 US dollars) by the Swedish gambling regulatory authority Spelinspektionen for violating customer fund source verification regulations. Additionally, the company recently released its financial report for the first quarter of 2025, showing quarterly revenue of 293.7 million euros.
Betsson emphasized that terminating this acquisition will not have a substantial impact on its group consolidated financial statements.
Meanwhile, Betsson successfully entered the emerging regulated market of Brazil in the first quarter, obtaining local SPA permission after the New Year, further expanding its international business layout. The company stated that it will continue to explore markets and partnership opportunities with growth potential.
