Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet announced on his personal Facebook that he has officially decided to completely suspend the purchase of electricity and internet services from Thailand, effective from June 13th.
This move is a response to the opinions on Thai social media suggesting to "cut off supplies to Cambodia." Hun Manet stated that to avoid unnecessary trouble for Thailand, Cambodia has decided to independently adjust its external dependencies.
In terms of network bandwidth, the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Chea Vandeth, announced that all national cable and internet service providers will stop purchasing network bandwidth from Thailand. He emphasized that Cambodia now has the capability to independently provide nationwide communication services, meeting the country's network needs.
Regarding electricity, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Suy Sem, also pointed out that Cambodia currently has sufficient electricity supply and is fully self-sufficient, without the need for external input.
Meanwhile, the Cambodian Ministry of Information has also ordered all national television stations to completely stop broadcasting Thai films and television content, including TV dramas, variety shows, and movies, effective from June 13th.
Hun Manet also emphasized that all government agencies must immediately assess the level of Cambodia's external dependencies and develop contingency plans to enhance the country's autonomy in critical resources and information. He called for national unity to face any potential external risks.
