Recently, Wuhan Tianhe Airport Customs discovered two passengers attempting to enter the country with a large number of Labubu toys from the Pop Mart series through the "undeclared channel" during a routine inspection. Due to anomalies detected during luggage scanning, customs intercepted them on the spot and launched an investigation. It was verified that the two passengers were carrying a total of 144 Labubu dolls, suspected of not declaring as required.
The passengers claimed that these dolls were purchased for resale at a profit, but they could not provide legal declaration procedures. Customs lawfully detained the related items and dealt with the two individuals according to the law, with the case still under further investigation.
In recent years, products like those from Pop Mart have seen explosive demand in the Southeast Asian market, especially in Thailand. Some limited edition dolls have been speculated to reach tens of thousands of Thai Baht, becoming a hot commodity for speculative trading. The high popularity and value have led to a large amount of purchasing and reselling activities. Customs reminds that carrying large quantities of trendy toys in and out of the country without declaration may be suspected of smuggling, and once verified, will face confiscation of goods and legal sanctions.
Moreover, the booming sales of Pop Mart trendy toys have also attracted high attention from market regulatory authorities. Relevant departments urge consumers to purchase rationally and be wary of legal risks brought about by purchasing trendy toys illegally. Customs especially emphasizes that travelers should strictly adhere to entry and exit declaration regulations, proactively declare carried items, and avoid economic losses and legal disputes due to negligence or illegal actions. This seizure incident also serves as a warning for the rapidly emerging trendy toy market, highlighting the importance of regulating purchasing and selling behaviors to promote healthy and orderly industry development.
