The Spanish Gambling Regulatory Authority (DGOJ) convened the first meeting of the new "Responsible Gambling Advisory Committee" this morning and submitted the draft of the "2026-2030 Safe Gambling Plan," setting the direction for future gambling policies.
This meeting marks the completion of the member update of the council since the end of the last term in May 2023, chaired by the Director-General of Gambling Regulation, Mikel Arana. The new council continues the diverse structure, with members from national and regional institutions, scientific research, healthcare, academic units, and related gambling industry groups, aiming to focus on the prevention and management of gambling disorders.
The focus of the meeting was to review and submit the draft of the "2026-2030 Safe Gambling Plan." This strategic document defines the policy framework and core objectives for the next four years, proposing three priority directions: analysis and diagnosis of the current gambling situation, promoting responsible gambling behavior, and strengthening player protection.
It is noteworthy that the Spanish government has recently imposed penalties on 14 illegal gambling operators, demonstrating its determination to strengthen regulation.
The draft sets six overall goals and twenty-two specific measures, aiming to promote a closer collaboration between the regulatory authorities and the advisory committee. The new council will have three months to propose amendments to the draft. The final version is expected to reach a consensus and be approved at the next meeting, becoming the action guide for Spain's future responsible gambling policy.
