The Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA) recently issued its first fine to YouTube influencer LeftlanePapi, initiating a crackdown on illegal gambling promotions on social media.
According to KSA, LeftlanePapi had been live streaming promotions for illegal online gambling sites on his channel, not only displaying the platforms but also "actively encouraging" viewers to register and participate in gambling, in serious violation of local laws.
KSA stated that it had issued a formal warning to LeftlanePapi, demanding the removal of the related content within 48 hours. However, the influencer failed to comply in time, resulting in a fine.
Under KSA's penalty regulations, if the content is not removed, each violation will result in a fine of 25,000 euros, with a maximum cumulative fine of up to 75,000 euros.
KSA emphasizes its "two-step" strategy: initially issuing a warning with a 48-hour deadline, and if the infringing content is not removed, immediately notifying the platform to take it down and penalizing the influencer directly.
KSA noted that there is a growing trend of influential bloggers posting illegal gambling content on online platforms, with most of the audience being young people, posing a significant societal risk.
In its statement, KSA reiterated its stance: "We have noticed an increasing number of influencers sharing their illegal gambling experiences on social platforms. These contents are highly enticing to adolescents."
The regulatory body also revealed that it has started monitoring more similar accounts and is preparing to initiate similar penalty procedures against other violators to ensure effective enforcement of the law.
