The UK charity GambleAware has launched a new "support tool" app, offering free, anonymous help services for users who intend to reduce or quit gambling. The app incorporates the Low-Risk Gambling Guidelines (LRGG), allowing users to track gambling habits, set goals, and receive personalized advice based on their situation.
This initiative stems from recent surveys showing that among UK gamblers aged 18 to 24, 29% wish to reduce or stop gambling, nearly twice the national average of 15%. Overall, up to 4.5 million people in the UK are seeking to control their gambling behavior.
The LRGG recommendations integrated into the app include: gambling no more than four days per month, spending no more than 1% of income, and avoiding participation in more than two types of gambling. This is currently the first digital tool in the UK to systematize LRGG standards for individual support.
GambleAware states that most people prefer self-regulation over formal treatment, hence the app emphasizes self-help and early intervention, and provides access options to podcasts, educational resources, and formal support services. Chief Business Officer Alexia Clifford stated, "Whether it's reducing, controlling, or quitting, GambleAware is committed to supporting users at every step."
The launch of this app also continues the organization's recent calls to lottery operators to clearly enhance the visibility of gambling support services, especially for vulnerable groups, including those with neurodiversity.
