The All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Gambling Reform in the UK recently announced the launch of a public inquiry into the future regulatory framework for gambling in the country. The inquiry aims to assess the current legal regulations' capacity to address gambling harms, their suitability in the digital age, and the necessity for a new "Gambling Act".
This review will look at the progress made since the government's white paper was published, focusing on the effectiveness of current legal tools in protecting vulnerable groups, and exploring whether stronger intervention measures or structural reforms are needed.
Ian Duncan Smith, Chair of the APPG and a Conservative MP, stated: "The white paper is a step in the right direction, but the challenges of gambling in the digital era demand further reforms to our regulatory framework to better protect the public."
The inquiry is open to all sectors of society, encouraging organizations and individuals to submit written evidence, with a deadline of September 12, 2025. The public can learn about the detailed submission process through the APPG's official website.
It is also noteworthy that the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is currently reviewing the acquisition of IMG Arena by Sportradar, as it may impact the competitive landscape of the gambling data market. This APPG inquiry could also provide policy references for similar industry structural reforms.
