The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Gambling Reform (APPG) in the UK recently announced the launch of a public inquiry into the future of British gambling regulation, aimed at assessing the adaptability and effectiveness of the current regulatory system in the digital age. This review will particularly focus on the progress made following the implementation of the government's 2023 Gambling White Paper, and will explore whether stronger intervention measures or structural reforms are needed.

Sir Ian Duncan Smith, chairman of the APPG, stated that although the White Paper is a positive start, the existing framework is still insufficient in the rapidly evolving online gambling environment, and further reforms are urgently needed to effectively protect vulnerable groups.

The inquiry is open to public participation, encouraging individuals and organizations to submit written evidence by September 12, 2025. The group will also consider whether to promote the drafting of a new Gambling Act to strengthen regulation of the digital gambling industry.

Meanwhile, the UK Competition and Markets Authority is also reviewing the acquisition of IMG Arena by Sportradar, due to potential competitive risks, reflecting an intensification of overall regulatory efforts in the gambling industry. More information and submission procedures can be obtained through the APPG official website.
